Bikes That Vote

Why Bikes That Vote?

Many of you who have stumbled across this site may be wondering about the name. Like many good things in life, the title came from a minor bit of serendipity. It was an election year (2020), and as I looked around my garage, the realization hit that most of my bikes had aged gracefully to the point that they would be old enough to vote, if they were human. In fact, a couple were old enough to run for Congress, two more could have run for Senate, and two more were old enough to be President.

I’ve had the habit of naming my cars and bikes pretty much since I first started driving, but do not recommend that you register your vehicles to vote, or run for office. Even though some vehicle seem to have more sense than some politicians and some votes, a sense of humor only goes so far. “Bikes that Vote” seemed a lot better than “Bikes that are old enough to Vote, but can’t because they are just machines”.

As a sexy-generian, nostalgia has its appeal, especially with motorcycles. The reality is that technology advances, and newer bikes are both wonderful and amazing. Engineers have learned a lot in the last 18 years, and newer bikes are almost always technically better than older machines. Please don’t consider me a Luddite for stating that it is possible to have just as much fun or enjoyment on these older motorcycles, and perhaps even more, when you factor in the satisfaction of reliving your youth and/or working on the machine with your own hands.

Welcome to the website, and to the video channel. My intention is for this to be a celebration of the joy of riding motorcycles, interspersed with riding videos, mechanical videos covering repair, restoration, and maintenance, talks about riding skills, safety, and survival, and some personal observations and reminiscences. I hope you will enjoy the ride as much as I have.
